Olivia Dainton is a bright and creative emerging fashion designer branding her work with the label By Olivia Grace, her work is globally inspired, using using the highest quality European sourced fabrics and employing intricate hand beading and lace crafting techniques to cater for the couture market in Australia.

 

Having being raised with exposure to the art of textiles from the age of three Olivia has developed an enduring affection for all things detailed and conventionally beautiful. Drawing on floral imagery and traditional femininity Olivia has devoted the last 6 years to modernising historical embroidery and beading to produce textural and intricate pieces which is reflected in the timeline of her work. Looking at the flower as an archetype Olivia is building a strong and feminine aesthetic that beautifully combines historic and the modern conventions to appease a gap in Australia’s market that are craving ethereal and elegant couture garments.

 

Olivia Dainton has just completed her graduation collection - EUDAIMONIA; A concept that was born from Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, his philosophical work on the ‘science of happiness’ (Irwin, 2012). The “pursuit of virtue, excellence, and the best within us” (Huta & Waterman, 2014: 1426) is a challenge we have all faced within the year of 2020 - looking at a post pandemic world Olivia is lining up the the pain and mistakes we have made with improved human values that have flourished from these experiences. It is with this body of work that Olivia aims to propel herself into the fashion industry, creating a career that she is proud of.
